Antoine Dupont
7-A-SIDE RUGBY
As part of the partnership between LVMH and Paris 2024, LVMH is proud to support Antoine Dupont, member of the French national rugby union team – and now also a member of the Olympic French rugby sevens team, a sport on the Paris 2024 Olympic program.
An exceptionally talented player – capped over 50 times for France’s 15-a-side team – the French half-scrum has already earned an impressive array of titles in 15-a-side rugby at the age of just 27. He was voted World Rugby Men’s 15s Player of the Year in 2021, won the Six Nations title in 2022, Top 14 three times (and was named Top 14 player of the season in 2021 and 2023) and European Cup with his club.
Antoine Dupont started playing rugby at the age of 4 in his native village of Castelnau-Magnoac in Occitania. Since November Antoine has set his sights on Paris 2024, joining the Olympic French rugby sevens team preparing for the Paris 2024 Games and aiming to win a first Olympic medal. Antoine also recently won the Los Angeles Sevens tournament with the French National Team. In addition to representing LVMH, Antoine Dupont becomes an Ambassador of Louis Vuitton for the Olympic Games Paris 2024. With his drive for excellence and ambitious goals, Antoine Dupont continually pushes his limits to achieve his dream of Olympic gold. LVMH and Louis Vuitton are delighted to support him on this journey and to welcome him as Ambassador and Artisan of All Victories. This partnership builds on the active support that LVMH and its Maisons have for many years provided for high-level sports and the most prestigious international competitions. From the creation of numerous trophies to trunks designed specially to hold them, LVMH Maisons have long been partners to the world of sports, spanning a wide variety of disciplines, including tennis, rugby, basketball, football and automobile racing.
History
7-A-SIDE RUGBY
Although the origins of rugby date back to the Middle Ages in various European countries, its rules were truly codified between 1845 and 1848 by students at Rugby School and Cambridge University in Great Britain.
Despite the emergence of numerous rugby variants over the years, such as thirteen-a-side, beach rugby and flag rugby, the most popular formats remain fifteen-a-side and seven-a-side. All these variants share the same basic rules, particularly with regard to tackling, passing strictly backwards and the way scrummaging takes place, which varies according to the number of players on the field. In seven-a-side rugby, the game is characterized by speed and intensity. At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, matches last just fourteen minutes, but they are extremely demanding, with more sprints and tries than a fifteen-a-side rugby game. The scoring methods are the same as in fifteen-a-side rugby: a try is worth five points, a conversion adds a further two points, while a drop-goal or penalty is worth three points.
